Working in Kings Langley

The High Street and the streets off it are a conservation-area mix of timber-framed and rendered cottages, Georgian brick frontages and Victorian villas, several of them listed. Above the village on Langley Hill and Rucklers Lane the stock turns to interwar and post-war semis and 1960s and 1970s estate housing, with large detached houses in generous plots out towards Chipperfield. The canal side adds the Ovaltine factory conversion apartments and a scatter of newer closes built on former industrial land.

Affinity Water draws from the Chilterns chalk aquifer, so WD4 sits in one of the hardest water bands in the country and shower screens, taps and kettle elements scale up within weeks

The village is split down the middle by the River Gade, with the west in Dacorum and the east in Three Rivers, so bin days, permits and licensing rules genuinely differ street to street

The High Street is the A4251 with limited on-street bays and loading restrictions, so a van serving a cottage there parks off the road or works around the morning school and commuter traffic

Water here is hard, so limescale on taps, screens and kettles takes longer than people expect.
